PORTFOLIO » Sculpture

My larger pieces of sculpture range from figures to furniture to busts. I use raku fired and smoke fired ceramic and found objects, fabric, paint , glaze and epoxy. I find building larger pieces involves more planning and engineering as far as firing them in a Raku kiln is concerned. I use many varied techniques in the building of my pieces, slab, pinch, coil, carving, modeling, Most of the large pieces are done in sections which I assemble after firing. My largest piece "Sitting at The Table of Life" is a series of figures and pieces of furniture which I worked on over a period of several years. I have developed a system of inner armature or support for showing my work, which makes it easy to set up and relatively inexpensive to ship. I am interested in creating an image that is ambiguous, not easily put into words, reflecting my inner life. My work is personal but I feel it resonates with others.
